Manipulation Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?

Yes, of course. It’s a very good question because We recorded this album in november 2014 - the release date was 11th of September 2015 so it’s like 10-11 months gap. When we finished recording album, Aro (Our sound engineer from Monroe Studio) started to mix the material. It was like a few months of searching for our own sound etc. After the material got mixed and mastered, we started to look for a publisher to release this album. We sent a lot of promo packs around the world. In the meantime we were also preparing a tour which will take place in autumn, finally we signed a contract with Satanath Records. The release date of Ecstasy was set up to 11.09.2015 (same as Slayer new album). The tour started on 25.09.2015 and finished on 13.11.2015. So all was set up in perfect time. On tour we’ve had the CDs from label ready, and also we’ve made band’s T-shirts. We have played 11 concerts in 2 months. Most of them in Our country (Poland), one in Wien - Austria and two in Bilbao - Spain. It was a nice time, very good experience for us - first time we were on our own tour and we were headliner, so it is a valuable experience for our band.

2.In September you had released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

Rado.Slav: First  of all the sound in ecstasy is more natural. We use analog equipment for most instruments, even natural acoustic drums without triggers, except kicks - there is a little bit of trigger. Previous albums were recorded always in home studio, and we’ve always used some prepared patterns,  fabricated sounds, plugins etc. In the end Our albums sounded good but you know: typical, similar to a lot of death metal records. This time we’ve made an album with soul, with our own original sound and I think we did this like we wanted in that particular moment. I now that some people like maybe our old typical death metal sound, but a lot of people like the new record and this is ok. We took a risk to record an analog album in a digital world.

3.Since 2007 there has only been 3 full lengths, can you tell us a little bit more about the gaps in between releases?

Rado.Slav: You know, when we made first album The Future of Immortality (unreleased) after this each of us was finishing school and everybody needed to find job etc.  First of all Qbic our vocal on that time left the band and Bysiek (our bassist move to england) we dont want looking for new members so from 2007 to 2010 we didn’t play at all. It was like 3 years of agony. After this in 2010 we come back again with te same line up. It's just live my friend.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?

Rado.Slav: Lyrics are the same from the begining and most of them are anti-religion especially anti-christian. Some old lyrics are also about science, about live and our thinking. In Ecstasy we uses same topic (antireligious) but also some political themes, existenctial things and it is nice. In next album we do little bit more in this direction I think. We've had enough of beating christians he he he :). Is milion bands around who can do this.I think antireligious topic is exhausted by us at this moment.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Manipulation'?

Rado.Slav: Is just a Manipulation - the thing what you can see everywhere, especially in mass media (tv etc.), around in your life, in politics, religion, even in your everyday life. Manipulation is a negative phenomenon so is just perfect name for a metal band. You meet us always in your fuckin imaginary life. (not only when you listen our music).

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Rado.Slav: We've played live from 2003 - there was a lot of good concerts, but the best one for sure was last year, two times in Bilbao in Spain - amazing performance for us, full of fans, good sound. We started that tour from concert in Spain and we over the tour after 2 months also in Bilbao again. Amazing thing, nice fans, a lot of sold merch, lot of autographs and nice adventures, good money also. It was definitely our best show to this moment.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Rado.Slav: Yes, we have plan to play some European tour in the second half of 2016. We get a good proposal from one concert agency and they have ready contract for us but yet we dont sign this because we have a problem with vocals - because bruzyc left the band. Recently we’ve came to the idea that our drummer Kriss will sing, yet he recorded vocals on each of our albums. We need only replace him on the drums. Is already one guy who probably will play with us on drums. The new drummer will come for sure, you’ll know who pretty soon :)

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of extreme metal?

Rado.Slav: The feedback is much more better than when we released Passion. After releasing Passion most of feedback was from Poland. Now in Ecstasy is the opposite situation. Feedback comes from around the world. This is a contribution of the Satanath records I think. They made good job for us. We get some reviews from USA, Germany, Netherlands etc. Feedback is very good. Album gets mostly high notes. Also in Our store we have orders from USA, Norway, Netherlands, Germany, Austria. It is nice. We were also in Terrorizer magazine on a cd.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

Rado.Slav: We all play only in Manipulation at this moment. So on that question will answer Kriss - because he has some more bands and projects.

Kriss: I'm a drummer in Deahtbringer and Empatic and Vocal in Disloyal. At this moment I play shows only with Empatic. Deathbringer records his second LP and Disloyal is preparing to some live shows. I'm also recording my solo album, the name of project is: Krisssqnproject. I'm also a session musician to studio and liveshows.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Rado.Slav: You know, for me Manipulation is my life. I think for other guys from band also. We work hard, play a lot, buy new instruments, backline etc. In upcoming weeks we will buy our own tourbus. We just do our best, first of all there is playing music and we'll see where this road will lead us.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Rado.Slav:  For sure Decapitated, Behemoth, Hate Eternal, Nile, Death, Morbid Angel, even old Metallica. There’s a huge amount of metal music which impresses and inspires me. I like also to listen to different genres of music, not only metal. Last time big impression for me was made by David Bowie’s new album "Blackstar". I’m open minded.

Kriss: There’s a lot of this. Inspirations are created over the years. For Example: Gojira, Meshuggah, Morbid Angel, Decapitated. Last time I was impressed by Hate Eternal album "Infernus".

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

Rado.Slav: I like play and watching football, I was play in local league before. I practise high jump as amateur and I like to watch fight sports, from boxing to MMA. But most of all music, instruments - I like hearing, reading, testing instruments etc.

Kriss: Only music and tattoos.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
