Glutton For Punishment are a band from Minnesota that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very brutal form of death metal and this is a review of their self released 2015 album "Purified In Blood".
A very fast and brutal sound starts off the album along with a great amount of blast beats and once the death metal growls start to kick in the songs start bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and you can also hear a great amount of harmonics throughout the whole recording.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they give the music more of an old school death metal feeling and you can also hear a touch of grindcore in the faster sections of the music and high pitched screams can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and as the album progresses acoustic guitars can be heard briefly while some of the heavier riffs also start incorporating more melody.
Glutton For Punishment creates another recording that remains true to the brutal death metal sound that they are known for, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover fear, life, punishment, torture and gore themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Glutton For Punishment and if you are a fan of brutal death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Purified In Blood" "Bound To be Dead" and "Homicidal Impulse". 8 out of 10.
