Extinctionist Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?

A: Since the recordings we've played a lot of shows. For example on festivals like "Nice To Eat You Death Fest" in Czech Republic, Berlin Death Fest and Las Vegas Death Fest.

2.In November you released a new album, how would you describe the sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you released in the past?

A: The sound is much more clear and powerful and pretty dynamic at the same time. It was important for us to get a heavy sound in which you can understand what the different instruments do. We didn't want to get a sterile and overproduced sound like a lot of technical Bands do nowadays.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

A: Our new album is a conceptual album and has a story that begins with the intro of the first song and ends with the outro of the last song. The main subject is about an extraterrestrial species that comes to our planet to establish their own race and make experiments with the humans.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'EXTINCTIONIST'?

A: EXTINCTIONIST doesn't really exist in the dictionary… It is more a creation of the word "extinction". In our case it means that it is somebody or something that is going to destroy the human life in many different kind of ways.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

A: There were a lot of shows that were awesome… we can't count them all. But the best shows in 2014 wereat Nice To Eat You Death Fest, Berlin Death Fest and Las Vegas Death Fest. These are huge festivals with a lot of bands and fans but we felt very welcome, made a lot of new friends, met bands and had a lot of fun. Like Florian (our drummer) said: "My personal favorite was last years (2014) show at Chemiefabrik in Dresden, because it’s my hometown and the venue was packed with many friends and fans of extreme music. A show with EXTINCTIONIST is intense and exhausting but on the other side is a lot of fun. I perform extreme music with a smile on my face."

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

A: Yes, we have some confirmed shows. For example Frankfurt Death Fest with Katalepsy (US), Stillbirth, Carnal Decay, Indecent Excision and many more. We also have some other plans but they are not safe yet.

7.The new album was released on Rising Nemesis Records, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

A: Rising Nemesis Records is a very good independent and underground label with a lot of really good and well known bands in Europe and the USA. They are good friends of ours and do their job very well.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by fans of technical and brutal death metal?

A: The feedback we got after shows was incredible. Fans were thankful for bringing our music to them and the crowd in front of the stage grew more and more. Also, the feedback, especially from the reviews we got for our new album, was great. For example:
www.insidethecoffin.com/ReviewEXTINCTIONISTPORTALSOFEXTRATERRESTRIALINVASIONS/
"In the brutal deathmetal genre PORTALS OF EXTRATERRESTRIAL INVASIONS is definitely one of the better releases coming from Germany in a long time. Recommended stuff!"

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part off?

A: Christian, our vocalist, plays bass guitar in a friends progressive rock band, called Aniconic, which has female front vocals with influences from Tool and A Perfect Circle.
Jörg,our bassist, plays in another brutal Death Metal band called ENDEMICY,which is pretty fast and without compromise!
Florian, our drummer, would love to do a progressive metal project, but his little family takes most of his time and he only has time for one band.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

A: That's hard to say. Also because the market in this genre is full of bands both good and bad.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

A: There are a lot of bands that gave us influences. For example Deeds Of Flesh, Wormed, Defeated Sanity, Dying Fetus, Suffocation and so many more! Currently we listen to many styles of music. Just a small selection would be like: Bloodbath, Periphery, Disgorge, Cattle Decapitation, Aristocrats, Benighted, Lost Soul, Devangelic, Condemned, Antropofagus, Original Soundtracks of games and movies, etc.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

A: Sports, movies, video games, reading books, riding unicorns (laughing)

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

A: Supporting the underground doesn't mean to support yourself!
