Subservience are a band from the united Kingdom, that plays a mixture of death metal, metalcore and groove and this is a review of their self released 2014 ep "Upheavel".
A very distorted sound starts off the ep before going into more of a brutal death metal direction along with some growling vocals and you can also hear a good amount of old school elements being added into the bands musical style and after awhile blast beats are added into certain sections of the recording along with a mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when solos and leads are added to the recording they are more in a melodic musical direction.
On the other tracks the band keeps around a very old school and brutal death metal sound and they also add in elements of metalcore and groove metal without letting those elements water down their musical sound or make it sound more mainstream like most bands that attempt to fuse those genres together and they also bring in a thrash metal influence and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Subservience creates a very old school and brutal style of death metal with their musical style as well as adding in a small amount of modern thrash, groove and metalcore to give their style a more up to date feeling, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics take inspiration from fiction along with some real life experiences.
In my opinion Subservience are a very great sounding mixture of death metal, groove and metalcore and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Upheavel" and "Slither". 8 out of 10.
