Avgrunn Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Soon we will start working the new álbum, so we can enter to records on early/mid 2013 … the album will be titled “Sync Protocols Froming Inhuman Results” and will be even more brutal than the album “Conceived Genetically Perverse”.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from the demos and ep's.
Our current sound is much different than the one we had in the demos and the EP … that was more death metal … but currently we are doing brutal death metal without a break … jejeje … the change was basically a reflection of the change of members in the band … I was getting the musicians I was needing to do that style … my endpoint in Avgrunn was get to do good brutal chaotic death metal, but well structured … and for that I was requiring good musicians … that currently I am lucky to have in the band.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the new release explores?
In the CD “ Conceived Genetically Perverse” the topic was more gore oriented and something of experimentation … but for the next album the only topic will be genetic experimentation and other crazy things.

4. I know that the name is in Norwegian, what was the decision behind using it as a band name?
Yes, the name is Norwegian. It means “abyss”. The idea came to the mind of the other guitar player who is not part of the band anymore … we wanted a name somehow different and not very typical for a death metal band … and that way merged the idea to use the name “Avgrunn”.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
The ones I have enjoyed more and the best ones taking about crowd response have been the shows in the mini-tour through France … with our brothers of Savage Annihilation … the shows we offered in Tours and Nantes … just brutal … the way the public treat us and their support were excellent … too much brutality those nights … jejeje … we did not think the crowd would react that way … our shows are pure brutality the people just cannot stay indifferent … I hope we would have more opportunity to play out of Spain … and any opportunity to play in any festival in Europe … to demonstrate and share our brutality called Avgrunn.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?
Currently we are dedicating our time to work in our next album and hope that for late 2013 we can make a tour through Europe … introducing the album … regarding shows, for now we are in a break.

7. The new album came out on Nice To Eat You Records, how did you get in contact with the label and how would you describe the support that they have given you so far?
Well, we had few offers and interested labels …No Label … Coyote Records … Sevared Records … etc. But at the end we decided for NTEY … Vladimir got in touch with us … we was interested in our album and he wanted to edit it … and we decided for his label.

  1. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of brutal death  metal?
Honestly we are very surprised with the reception of the album … there are very good reviews of the CD … and the fans of this genre like it very much … in Indonesia and South America are the places where we like a lot.

9. What is going on with the other musical projects these days?
Three members of Avgrunn (vocals, bass and drums) have another death-grind band called “Fall of Mankind” that I would also recommend you to listen … this current year they have released their first LP like Avgrunn … called “Frolic Among Remnants” edited by the Indonesian label No Label Records … and they also working in their next album.

10. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
Be every time more brutal, do good music … and make somethinghtat our fans enjoy … and that they may have the possibility to see us live … because in live shows the songs are more brutal than in the album.

11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what  are you listening to nowadays?
My influences are bands like Disgorge, Putridity, Deeds of Flesh, Putrid Pile, Disavowed, etc … those are what I usually listen to more … and what I am currently listening to is the new Orphalis CD that I have received just not too long ago … and it is brutal !!

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Thank you very much for this interview … for the readers … Greetings ! Thanks to all the fans for your support … the next album is coming and there will be a lot of brutality … and thanks very much to Viceral Productions from US (Texas) for the support you are giving us …a big hug for you … and if somebody is interested in the band’s merchandising here you have a link http://avgrunn.bigcartel.com/
