Agony Lords Interview

1. Can You Give Us An Update On What Is Going On With The Band
These Days?

Well We are starting the promotion for our upcoming album A tomb
for the haunted to be release through Chaos records last week
November 10 we played our first show with the new line up and the
new songs so we are in war right now trying to do our best for the
band !!!

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how
it differs from previous releases?

The sound has changed a lot since our last record 10 years ago the production
and composition process was so natural and full of commitment to do the
things the right way this time you know we are not as younger as before ja ja
so that perspective of growing has help us to develop a more interesting kind
of record this time all the experiences of the past all that old influences
Mercyful fate, Kind diamond and all that NWOBHM sound is in our music is
a tribute to all that period  of our lives but with you know with a modern kind
of vibe and this time we had total control of the production so this is
definitively our best work to date !!!!

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with
the music?

Always have been the paranormal state of mind and soul, the afterlife and the
mysticism behind ,,,this record is different I wrote a conceptual album more
into the tales of Alan Poe and kind of  Victorians age writers is a classic ghost
story , witches ,spells, crime and mystery , with a lot of paranormal situations
ja ja as I said before I love King diamond so it was inevitable to do something
the way they perfectly do

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

When we were playing in our first band Ripping Flesh in 1990 we used to
play death metal with lot of gore and rotten shit in the lyrics so when we
decided to go in another musical direction we wanted a more serious name ja
ja you know and in that time the sound of  the band was in a state of self-
discovery ja ja but we choose Agony lords because at that time we were more
into the doom metal scene that so brilliantly started to grow in 1992 we were
into that kind of doom stuff so for us was a great name

5. There was a 13 year gap between albums, what was
going on during those years?

Lots of trouble we were finishing school at that time some band members got
married and the kids came and that years were very difficult in mexico in
economics so you had to choose between a good job and take care of your
family or stay in the band and die  that was the shit about that years that the
reason we split up after Nihilist Passion was released we were not into the
band as before the life was pushing us into a lot of more stressful situations
where you have to decided what to do with your life so we decided to buried
the band for a lot of time but we never stop playing we continued with another
projects and ideas and finally 4 years ago we decided to meet again and return
with lot of energy and fortunately without pressure or stress of any kind just
the passion to do a great album and play live again !!!!

6. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how
would you describe your stage performance?

I remember in 1992 the show opening for Unleashed in Mexico city it was a
sold out concert the arena was full 1500 maniacs we were promoting our
second album The sun of the cursed so there was a lot of expectations, the fans
where so fucking great as they still nowadays , we always try to do a natural
performance no acting or posing fake postures and false image you know we
are in our way we are more into create moods and the theatrical way of things
but of course lot of headbanging and energy we are not puppets just playing
on the stage we are always communicating how we fell rising hands and
screaming metal will never die!!! you know ja ja ja we did a show 4 years ago
when we reunited we played in our city  that was a very emotional act the
band was perfect the place the people the mood was so honest that you just go
ahead like if the time was frozen for 10 years that was an awesome feeling !!!

7. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?

We are already planning the first dates of the promotional tour in some cities
nearby but we expect to start the most important part of the tour next year and
for the very first time we want to travel overseas so we are searching for
promoters over Europe, some dates in the USA will also be schedule so be
prepare we have big plans for the new album.

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by
fans of extreme metal?

Right now is more like a new journey for all of us a lot of things have changed
in 10 years maybe for the guys of the old years our music could sound familiar
but for the new brigade of new extreme metal followers is like a kind of
discovery remember we are a product of the 80s and 90s but the response in
reviews anyway has been very positive and inspiring so we are trying to go to
more places this time !!!

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

We are composing new songs right now and of course the sound is more in the
actual wave, we are very influenced by the old but touched by the new bands
also but we have our own style that’s the truth we don’t want to copy to
anyone I really expect a more dark occult and heavier sound in the next
releases of the band more in the vein of the song A tomb for the haunted large
song with lots of mood changes and depth lyrical concepts

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your newer
music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

The most influential bands in our sound are of course mercyful fate /king
diamond stuff but actually we listen a lot of different ideas, I love stoner rock
and metal all that progressive dark bands from the old times from Italy for me
still being a source of inspiration, the band listen a lot of progressive stuff king
crimson , the first pink Floyd  and a lot of death thrash metal !!! so we are not
into a single mood or vibe we listen a lot of great music !!

11. How would you describe your views on Occultism?

Here in Mexico exist  a big culture of worship and respect for the dead the
dark side of the afterlife our ancestors were always in contact with the reigns
of the dead that their culture proclaims as holy and sacred so for us to talk
about that aspect of the human spirit is a common path of discussion of course
we thing different that the people around the globe I thing we try to be or to
express all that knowledge in a more global way we respect our roots of our
ancestors but in a way that can be interesting to another cultures !!

12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

I’m a well known producer here in Mexico I have my own recording studio
(Revolution studios) we made recording mixing and mastering for bands and
from all around the world ,we walso work in more multimedia projects short
films and more commercial stuff  in post production.
right now I’m working on the new zombiefication album we are doing the
recording here in México and the mixing will be done in Necromorbus studio
by Tore Stjerna in Sweden by January and other hobbies are the movies I love
movies yeahghghhggh and music all fucking day !!!

13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

the flame alive !!!!! This time will be forever!!!!
