Belial are a band from Finland that plays a style of music that I would describe as blackened death metal and this is a review of their 1993 e.p "The Gods of the pit pt. II" which was released by Moribund Records.
Drums alternate between slow to midpaced beats with some fast parts as well as some very brutal blast beats, while the bass playing has a very dark tone and thre is a good mixture of slow and fast riffs.
Rhythm guitars are tuned down low to make the slow parts sound alot heavier while the fast parts are death metal riffing with some early European black metal influences, while the lead guitars are very raw, noisy and chaotic guitar solos.
Vocals are all low pitched death growls with some of the vocals having an extra deep necro feel, while the lyrics are kind of occultic as well as cover some of your typical death metal themes, as for the production on this album which was recorded at Tico-Tico by Ahti Kortelaineen has a very raw feel which makes the music alot darker than most death metal bands.
In my opinion Belial where a very underrated band for their time and if you are a fan of evil sounding death metal with a blackened touch you should try really hard to look for this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "THe Invocation and "For Them". RECOMMENDED BUY.
